Our favorite singer is nominated for BEST ACT EVER! Naturally, he MUST be on the shortlist so I say all of you should start voting as many times as you can because Mika DESERVES this award!
Flamboyant pop singer-songwriter Mika, 23, leads the 100 desirable boys. Often compared to the Scissor Sisters and Freddie Mercury, his debut single Grace Kelly has been this year's runaway hit.
He was born Mica Penniman in war-torn Beirut, but his family fled Lebanon for Paris when he was just one, and moved to London eight years later. He was educated at Westminster and the Royal College of Music.
Tonight is probably the most important gig for Mika, as he is playing in Beirut, the city where he was born in. Ofcourse MF wishes Mika all luck in the world and hopes that he will enjoy every second of it! We'll be cheering for you Mika!
I told you all about a new project coming, and here it is. I will put proper links to it up tomorrow, but for now take a peak and tell me what you think. More content is coming, but hopefully this will all help you already, you know who you are
Nearly two weeks into my summer festival run and here is my long overdue B.L.O.G!
I’m currently sitting on my tour bus driving through the wine country in Bordeaux on my way to my gig tonight in Arcachon. Eating burnt microwave popcorn (courtesy of my sister Yasmine) and carrying out my newly found steaming ritual, (a la Celine Dion!), life’s is pretty sweet, odd but sweet. From my bunk on the top floor of my bus the weather looks perfect. I just spent last night in a ridiculously grand Chateau in Cognac. With a bathroom more grand than Elton John’s in-house chapel and grounds the size of a small park, it was a totally amazing way to spend a day off. Making a Vid Blog about it now, check it out in a couple hours.
Talking of weather, I’ve been hearing reports of a monsoon season back in London. Bleak! Well the weather turned on us too the other night at Aix Les Bains. However, I’ve got to hand it to everybody there; you were completely amazing. Despite the torrential rain, the other night felt like one of the funnest shows we’ve ever done. Thank you to everyone there, it was a total pleasure. Check out our Vid Blog on that night that we’ve just put up.
Back to my bus for a second! I have a TV in my toilet with a Michael Flately DVD on constant repeat. Try as we have, we just can’t figure out how to stop it. Apparently this bus was last used on his tour.
Looking back on the last two weeks I have to mention Wechter Rocks in Belgium. It BLEW us away how many people came along to see us in SUCH horrific weather! That black cloud loomed over us in seconds! But once again you guys made the most of the bleak conditions holding up tarpaulins to shield each other from the rain! Seems like our cover of Depeche Mode’s ‘Just Can’t Get Enough’ is going down a treat too. I didn’t realise how ingrained that song had become in peoples minds!
I cannot describe to you how incredible my show at Parc de Princes felt but anyone who was there would have guessed by the smile on my face. My team and I put in so much effort and it all paid off. What a night! I am so proud of what we accomplished and can’t wait to evolve these ideas in future. It is incredible to see your ideas blown up to that scale for the first time.
Big thank you to Kanye West for his nice words about my Paris gig on his blog the other day. Been watching you too Kanye! But you know that already J
Thank you all for travelling from far and wide to see the show. I met fans from Uruguay, Japan and America. It still astounds me how far you guys travel! How do you blag time off work? I hope the show was everything you expected and more.
I’ve been bumping into some pretty incredible people at the festivals and was lucky enough to watch Beck play in Lisbon on Thursday. What a talented guy. Christiano Ronaldo walked past me in my hotel. My crew tell me that’s a big deal. Hope you’re all liking our “on the road” films we’ve been making. There are loads more to come!
I’ve got 2 more weeks of touring coming up including my gig in Beirut on the 27th. I’m hugely looking forward to playing in Lebanon and couldn’t think of a better way to end this summer run.
Keep on checking out my blog/holding page mikasounds.com for daily updated Pics, Video Blogs and other stuff whilst we work on the full new website.
Australian singer Kylie Minogue is scheduled to perform in the final show of Miss Universe 2008 at Diamond Bay’s Crown Convention Center in Nha Trang. Australian superstar singer Kylie Minogue and Britain’s new prodigy Mika will perform in the final show of this year’s Miss Universe pageant, said organizers.
Minogue is an Australian pop singer-songwriter and occasional actress.
She rose to prominence in the late 1980s upon commencing a career as a pop artist in 1987.
She has achieved superstar status with worldwide hits including “Better the devil you know” and “Can’t get you out of my head.”
In 2005, Minogue was diagnosed with breast cancer but overcame the disease to release her tenth studio album entitled “X” in November 2007.
She has recently completed her KylieX2008 world tour.
Minogue was dubbed Officer of the Order of the British Empire by Prince Charles and Knight of the Order of Arts and Literature by French Minister of Culture Christine Albanel earlier this year.
Mika, whose real name is Mica Penniman, is a Lebanese-born, London-based, Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter.
He rose to fame around the end of 2006 with songs like “Grace Kelly” and “Relax, take it easy.”
In 2007, Mika won three awards, the most of any artist, at the World Music Awards – the annual ceremony where awards are given to the biggest selling recording artists internationally.
To date he is the first artist to have won three World Music Awards in one year.
The final show, to be broadcast live worldwide on America’s NBC channel tomorrow morning, will also feature the 2007 VH1 Soul/VIBE Awards winner Robin Thicke.
In related news, the jurors of the final telecast have been revealed with the panel including Miss Universe 2004 Jennifer Hawkins, leading fashion designer Roberto Cavalli and tycoon Donald Trump’s eldest son Donald Trump Jr.
The sole Vietnamese juror for the final show, to be held at Diamond Bay’s Crown Convention Center in coastal Nha Trang beach town, is Thanh Nien’s Editor-in Chief Nguyen Cong Khe.
To the rhythm of Mika's "Love Today", the 80 delegates of Miss Universe 2008 pre-taped the opening number and intros wearing their national costumes at the pageant's main stage in the Crown Convention Center in Nha Trang. About 6 hours of intensive production were needed to create the spectacular images that the audience will see during the live telecast on July 13th
I just found out that our beloved Sophie Michalakoudis, a.k.a Mika the second, had to pay 1.200 euros to the venue of Vorst National, for sueing them to stop our Mika from performing there. As you might all know this Mika the second said she couldn't get a job anymore because of the possible confusion with Mika. And we all had to forget the fact that even in her home country barely anyone had an idea who she was.
Mika has said he won't be releasing his new album until next year.
"The new album won't be until 2009," Mika told PS. "I'm being quite protective over it, because it feels weird to talk about songs until they're ready for everyone to hear them."
He added: "They're definitely fun songs - I'm chasing the same feelings I had on my first record. If I do that and develop too, I'm on the right path."
He's Irelands most famous caricature artist-but Niall O'Loughlin got a shock when he was approached by none other than pop superstar Mika. Niall- who's work will appear at the Stars exhibition at St. Stepehen's Green shopping centre this weekend - is currently working on a portrait of the Grace Kelly singer. The artist explains how he landed the commission. "I met him at the Oxegen festival last year where I held an exhibition in the VIP area for the bands.
He approached me and said he's love me to do a painting of himself". And Niall revealed, "He seemed really down to earth, almost shy, and was only happy to pose for photos for me". This Sunday's stars exhibition at 12 noon in the famous Green Galllery in the shopping centre also features work by Mark Baker, Ed Chapman and William Mulhall. They're all highly regarded in the art world and Niall's last show was sold out, so be sure to arrive early to view his work. Nialls only complaint at the moment is that he doesn't have enough time to do his own stuff. "It's almost impossible to turn down commissions when they come in", he says. "You have to pay the bills!" Niall's past work as displayed on the Late Late Show- includes porraits of Bono, Collin Farrell, Roy Keane and Britney Spears. His new work includes everyone from Ronny Drew to Wayne Rooney, so all in all there will be something for everyone to enjoy this Sunday.
Im sitting 45 mins outside of New York, planning the last few days of my US trip. I've been here for 12 days now but only have two more to go. As I started searching through the internet and going through comments and messages on myspace as well as spying into various forums(the latter always being a bit of a dangerous activity), it became clear to me that I needed to write something and let people know what I'm up to.
Tonight I'm off to watch Tegan and Sara at Terminal 5 in New York. If you don't know them, check out their song Back In Your Head. Its pretty damn good. They're playing the very same place that we all took over a few months ago. I'm also going to be checking out the illustrator Sophie Blackall's studio in Broklyn. I've spoken about her before. She illustrated a brilliant children's book called Ruby's Wish.
Its been a busy few weeks. Mainly, I've been working on the new album. Writing and demoing. But I've also been planning a few other things. Mainly my website and my short festival run in July.
I have decided to redesign my website and change the way that I've been approaching what I do online. From the very beginning, I always wanted a website that not only represented me, my music and my visual world but something that could take on a life of its own. I never really had a chance to make this happen the way that I wanted it to. SO... I have formed a small team, and together with them, I am going to write about what I'm up to on a regular basis. Posting things that we love from around the world as well as creating new art, cartoon strips, short films and loads more.
Ambitious? yes! but fun too. and thats the point. I suppose that as we have become less broke, creating things like this have become more possible. I know that if I started a normal blog people wouldn't be interested in reading what I was having for breakfast or which other musicians I think are asses. So that's not the point. Think of it as bit of an online scrap book.
We are going to start building the new site really soon and we will be looking for your help. So keep your eyes peeled for how you can get involved.
As for the July run of shows. You can find out where I'm gonna be on the LIVE section of www.mikasounds.com I will post the dates up here by tomorrow.
I have to say one more thing. I notice that the past few months I've been getting loads of messages and comments from people in the United States and especially from South America. I'm really proud of what's been happening with my music in Argentina and Mexico, Venezuela and all over South America. I am thanking you to high heaven for giving me an excuse to tour over there on my next record. Can't wait!
Right my ride to the city has been waiting for me for 45 mins. Its almost five and I havent showered or eaten yet. My hair smells as i have refused to wash it on a "natural" wash experiment I've had going on. Now that it itches, I've had enough. Screw natural. My scalp needs chemicals.
Another fan has started this initiative of getting radiostations in America to play Mika. Radiostations do not play him and use lousy arguments like: "Too high" "There's no demand" "We can't play a guy who wants to be a woman"
So take a look at her website and see how you can help!
